Talks between the University and micro-mobility provider Voi are being finalised to enable public dockless e-bikes and e-scooters to be deployed in West Cambridge and at Eddington.
Users download the Voi app and create an account for which a driving licence is needed. Users then locate a scooter or bike with assistance from the app, unlock it with their phone, and commence their ride. It costs £1 to unlock a scooter, and then 20p per minute. The scheme operates between 6am and 8pm. Voi also offers 24-hour (at £10) and 30-day (at £40) subscriptions that allow users to take an unlimited number of rides at a fixed rate. The subscriptions can be purchased in the app. University staff and students receive a 20% discount.
Users are rewarded with future discounts if they return the scooter to a designated parking location, as shown on the app. The area covered for riding the scooters and e-bikes recently extended to villages around Cambridge including Girton, Histon and Milton as well as to Park and Ride sites.
