Sustainability

There are some things in life – like birthday parties, eating out or rowing – which just work better when you’re not on your own. Commuting is the same. Combine this with the fact that transport is now the second largest expense for UK households, and sharing your lift to work becomes pretty tempting!

Fortunately the University provides staff with a totally free-to-use website which shows who else is going the same way to work. But how exactly can it help prospective car sharers?

• You may think you are the only one to travel from Ipswich or Peterborough each day to get into work, but Liftshare’s map shows that people travel from all over to get to the University!

• It is possible to share part of your journey, such as from your children’s school or a village on the route if it is not for the whole journey.

• You don’t even need a car to carshare; many people are happy to offer lifts in exchange for sharing the fuel costs.

• The database searches for possible matches for you, and you can choose to contact the member(s) using our internal messaging system.

Liftshare Week, from 5 – 11 October, is a huge pat on the back for all those brilliant people who car-share - and an opportunity for those thinking about giving it a try. Both have the opportunity to win £250, by logging into the site and sending another member a ‘request to share’ message between 28 September and 11 October. So sign up for free and register your journey details on: https://camuni.liftshare.com/
