Madingley Rise Car Park Barriers

Plans to install car park barriers are being progressed, and a planning application was submitted at the end of June 2023. Installing barriers at this site will have the following benefits for staff:

  • Barriers physically prevent unauthorised parking, keeping car park spaces available for use by those with a permit
  • Barriers avoid the need to introduce other enforcement measures such as Parking Charge Notices (PCNs) to be issued
  • Barriers will assist in facilitating the pre-booking of parking spaces using the Wayleadr booking system

Once planning approval has been granted (typically after 8-12 weeks), the procurement process will begin and it is hoped that works on site to install the barriers can begin during Michaelmas term 2023. The barriers will be located on Madingley Rise close to the entrance to the Greenwich House gravel car park.

The Environmental Sustainability Team will work with relevant departments based at Greenwich House and on Madingley Rise to establish new processes (e.g. for visitors & deliveries) and provide guidance for when the barriers are operational. The team will also continue to expedite plans for barriers at other car parks at this site, such as the Department of Astronomy.

Wayleadr – Car Park Space Booking System

The booking system continues to be very well used at both trial sites (Greenwich House and West Road car parks). As of 21st July, a total of 11,949 booking requests have been made. Of these:

  • 9211 (77.1%) were approved
  • 2086 (17.5%) were cancelled (e.g. as no longer required)
  • 634 (5.3%) were rejected (e.g. as the maximum number of bookings had already been reached)

*18 (0.2%) bookings were cancelled by the system administrator due to spaces being unavailable because of essential building works

A big thank you to all staff who have continued to make bookings and provide feedback since the initial launch in October. In March 2023, Transport Working Group approved proposals to expand the booking system to other suitable car parks from September 2023, and further details about this will follow at a later date.
