Sustainability

We’ve got a lot on the cards for 2016/17.

  • Ten academic projects are already underway.
  • Potential future projects, identified by Estate Management staff, will be appearing on the Living Lab webpages shortly. This will help create more project opportunities starting from where the need exists on the operational side.
  • Thermal imaging to identify where heat is escaping is set to continue.
  • We are planning to provide more support for student inductions, more engagement with college Green Officers to support their efforts, as well as more links with student societies working on environmental initiatives.
    • The desire for further student engagement was highlighted in a number of the 901 responses from a student survey carried out in May Week.
    • In this survey we discovered that a large proportion of students identified with the following statement: “I think climate change is a big problem for us. I know I don’t think much about how much water or electricity I use, and I forget to turn things off…I’d like to do a bit more”.
  • The Carbon Challenge is launching in Michaelmas term, creating the opportunity for students and staff to put forward their own ideas and proposals for reducing carbon emissions across the University Estate.

If you have an idea that you would like support from the Living Lab in developing, please feel free to get in touch – living.laboratory@admin.cam.ac.uk.
