Last year, almost 11,000 tonnes of the University’s carbon footprint came from commuter emissions; these emissions are equivalent to that of a car driving around the world 1,550 times!

The University Sustainability Vision, Policy and Strategy has a target of no more than 25 per cent of University staff commuting in singly occupied cars. 

This year’s travel survey was distributed to staff in October and 2885 staff completed survey. As you can see by the graph below; we have some work to do to meet our target.

The University has a number of initiatives in place to support staff in a range of travel options. Further details of these options are show below and our website, please take time to see what changes you could make.

Buy a bike using a Travel to Work loan or through salary sacrifice.   Get subsidised cycle training. Register to share your journey to work through the University Liftshare account Use the Cambridgeshire mobile app providing free access to real time bus information. Park and Ride - drive to one of the five Park & Ride sites on the outskirts of Cambridge.  
Staff may be eligible for an interest-free loan to purchase an annual bus or rail season ticket. Through Travel for Cambridgeshire staff are eligible for 10% discount on season tickets of over a month for travel on Great Northern and Abellio Greater Anglia routes. Get a discount on membership of a car club. The University subsidises the Universal bus service running between West Cambridge and Addenbrookes.
