How to avoid the perfect storm of sudden downpours, howling winds and delayed buses

You can now access a pocket version of SmartPanels on your phone to display real-time travel information (for buses and trains) as well as live weather forecasts. Once you choose your bus stop, a map will display the real-time position of buses near you so you can time your dash from the office to perfection.

Pocket SmartPanel is free to download and can help you plan your journeys around the city and beyond more efficiently. Pocket SmartPanel currently displays:

  • bus times from your chosen stop – shown with either a live Wifi or timetable symbol next to them, and as icons on a map to show you where the bus is in real-time;
  • train departure times from specific stations, whether they are on time or delayed; and
  • three-day weather forecasts.

To use the Pocket SmartPanel on your phone, simply follow the link, accept the T&Cs and add the page to your phone’s homescreeen. You can find more info on how to use it online.

Free bike checks

Did you know University staff can have their bikes checked for free? If your brake pads, cables and inner tubes need changing then don’t miss the next Dr Bike session near you. To find out where the next one is and to book your place, please click here.

If you know your bike needs a specific new part, you can order it through Bikeworks, book a slot and a mechanic will fit it for free during the Dr Bike session.

Remember the University’s Travel to Work loan scheme could help you buy a bicycle and associated safety equipment with an interest-free loan of up to £2,500.

Car sharing in Cambridge

Share your commute and save money through the Cambridge Liftshare account ‘Cam Share’. Anyone working or living in Cambridge is able to register and search for car sharing partners. The service is free and open to drivers and passengers.

Need help creating a travel plan for your department or building?

To get you started in developing a travel plan, the Environment and Energy Section can provide you with baseline data and provide recommendations and advice specific to your site/department. Updated data will be provided on an annual basis to enable you to explore whether your department’s/building’s modal share has changed since implementation of your travel plan. If you would like more information, or to discuss a specific travel plan for your department or site, please contact us.

Have your say and stay up-to-date
