Sustainability

The Environment & Energy section recently hosted the Laboratory Efficiency Action Network (LEAN). Representatives from nine institutions were present: the University of Edinburgh, the Francis Crick Institute, Kings College London, University College London, University of Manchester, University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, University of Warwick and University of Brighton.

Attendees shared their approaches and experiences of tackling inefficiencies in laboratories and research spaces. It was very useful to discuss the varied and exciting projects going on in the various institutions and to learn from each other. Topics discussed included demand-responsive ventilation, eLearning and training of lab users, Living Labs and plant growth LEDs. This was a valuable day that will help us all unlock improvements in laboratory environments.

To further facilitate the sharing of knowledge in this field, the Environment and Energy section are providing three tickets for staff who would like to attend the Lab Excellence conference on 12 December. The conference, which will be hosted at the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus Hinxton, will showcase best practice in today’s laboratory management.
