Gain valuable experience and a certificate in Environmental Auditing by taking part in free online training delivered by SOS-UK  and approved by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). You will then put your newfound skills into practice by conducting virtual Green Impact audits on 11 or 12 May 2021. Register your interest here.

What is Green Impact?

Green Impact is the University’s change and engagement programme which supports departments and Colleges in making positive improvements for environmental and social sustainability. Now in its ninth year at Cambridge, the programme has gone from strength to strength with teams completing a record number of sustainable actions last year (over 2,400!). These teams have all worked hard towards their awards but we need to conduct an audit to verify their award level… and this is where you come in!

What happens on the day?

In the morning SOS-UK will provide accredited online environmental training. The training will help you develop important employability skills including communication, decision-making, time management, planning and organisation. You will also come away with a comprehensive understanding of sustainability here at Cambridge as well as practical experience conducting an environmental audit.

Directly following the training, you will put into practice what you have learned by virtually auditing Green Impact teams across the University. You will likely be paired with another volunteer auditor and have the opportunity to speak to staff and students who are leading the way in making the University a more sustainable place to live, work and study. You’ll play an important part not just in checking what each team have accomplished, but also giving them useful feedback, and collecting best practices that can be shared with others.

The day will run from 09:30-17:00 and follow the format below:

Who is eligible?

Current students at the University of Cambridge, from all disciplines, are welcome to apply.

What skills do you need?

No technical knowledge is needed! Full training will be provided. All you need is an interest in sustainability and the desire to learn something new.
