Sustainability

Student workshop

Gain valuable experience and a certificate in Environmental Auditing by taking part in free online training delivered by SOS-UK (NUS’ sustainability charity) and approved by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). You will then put your newfound skills into practice by conducting Green Impact audits on 6 May.

Green Impact is the University’s change and engagement programme which supports departments and Colleges in reducing their environmental impact. The scheme helps people understand sustainability and social responsibility, shows you what you can do to make a difference, and supports staff and students in achieving these actions.

Now in its eighth year at Cambridge, the scheme has gone from strength to strength with teams winning an amazing 50 awards in 2019. In February 2020 alone, Green Impact teams completed 500 environmental actions which reached approximately 4,400 staff. These teams have all worked hard towards their awards but we can’t audit their progress without you!

Both the online training and audits will take place on 6 May and, in light of recent events, you will be able to take part remotely from anywhere in the world. The training will enable you to develop important employability skills including communication, decision-making, time management, planning and organisation. No previous skills or knowledge is needed.

Directly following the training, you will put into practice what you have learned by auditing Green Impact teams across the University of Cambridge via a conference phone call or Skype call, speaking to staff and students who have led on initiatives to make the University and Colleges a more sustainable place to work, live and study. You’ll play an important part not just in checking what each team have accomplished, but also giving them useful feedback, and collecting best practices that can be shared with others.

Please email us to register your interest. We will send details on how to join the training session and which teams you will be auditing nearer the time.
