Sustainability

We had an amazing response to the staff and student annual travel surveys this year. The response rate for both was well in excess of last year's and any University travel survey on record! 3,410 staff (27%) and 1,231 students responded within the survey window, so thank you. While the detailed results are still being analysed, we do have some initial headlines to share.

Monday to Friday roughly 60% staff are working at home with 30% working at their usual workplace. The remaining 10% are either not working that day or at a different location.

Around 35% of staff expect to return to their workplace five days a week, around 60% of staff intend to return one to four days a week with the majority of these intending to return two or three days a week.

Arrival mode (the way staff arrive at their place of work) showed that:

By car - driver 29%
By car share - driver 2%
By car share - passenger 2%
By bike 40%
By taxi 0%
On foot 23%
By bus (Universal) 2%
By bus (other) 1%
By motorcycle/scooter 1%

For students these figures were:

Walking 46%
Cycling 42%
Universal bus 1%
Other bus 1%
Taxi/Uber 0%
Car club 0%
Car passenger 0%
Car driver 1%
Motorcycle/motor-scooter 0%
Electric micro-scooter 0%
