The Environmental Sustainability Team secured an award at the Sustainable Travel Awards held at York Racecourse on the evening of 23rd November.
They won the ‘E-Mobility Project of the Year’ category for the work to make Voi e-scooters and e-bikes available to staff for travel at work. The project seeks to provide an attractive, safe and convenient option for staff, as well as enabling a comparison exercise to be undertaken to see how the Voi-based model compares with the provision of our own pool bikes in terms of costs, safety and user experience.
Stewart Bethell, Transport Coordinator, has led the project, supported by Amanda Nolan, Transport Manager, working in partnership with Voi, and he has worked to get departments signed up and inducted, as well as developing the process of obtaining ‘ride credits’ via Booker. Mike Davies, Transport Manager, wrote the award entry.
A trophy is due to follow as the organisers experienced a ‘supply chain issue’ and thus were only able to give Stewart and Mike a certificate on the evening itself!
The awards event was part of the National Team ModeShift Convention two-day sustainable transport event attended by 300 delegates. Mike gave a presentation about sustainable transport at Eddington on Day Two which generated a lot of interest with many people expressing a desire to come and visit.
Mike said:
“We enjoyed two days of learning and networking amongst fellow transport professionals, and the event was topped off by winning the award. This recognises how we seized the opportunity to work with our local on street public e-scooter and e-cycle scheme to provide greater choice for staff travel at work between sites, as well as providing us with some data so that we can see if a Voi-based model, University owned pool bikes, or a combination of both is the best solution”
