Sustainability

Students! Want to gain the skills and knowledge associated with environmental auditing? Want to do a course that is IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment) approved? Want to find out more about what departments and colleges are doing to ‘green’ the University? This is your chance! We are looking for volunteer student auditors to help audit Green Impact teams across the University.

Green Impact is the University's environmental accreditation scheme. It supports and encourages departments and colleges across the University in reducing their environmental impacts. Teams of staff across the University have been working hard throughout the year to improve the environmental and sustainability performance of their workplaces, and will soon submit their workbooks of evidence showing what they’ve achieved throughout the year. This is where our student auditors come in!

All departments need an audit to verify their level of achievement. Our focused day of training and auditing will enable a select group of students to support and verify the Green Impact program, aiding their own understanding of sustainability as well as their professional development. Seeing how well teams have done over the year is one of the most exciting and inspiring parts of the Green Impact process, but also presents a great opportunity to gain practical experience and knowledge of the highly transferrable skill of auditing.

On Thursday 5 May 2016, each volunteer auditor will receive a half-day training course on the Green Impact criteria, what they need to audit, and the skills required for auditing. In pairs auditors will then gain practical experience by completing one or more audit.

No technical knowledge is needed to take part as full training will be provided to fit in with any learning or access requirements. All you need is an interest, enthusiasm and commitment. If you’re eager to get involved, all you need to do is fill out the short and simple application form. You can find the form, along with an auditor role description and contact details should you have any questions, on the Green Impact section of our website. The deadline for applying is Thursday 21 April.
