Sustainability

In the same month that the Queen reached her 90th Birthday, and 400 years passed since the death of William Shakespeare, another major milestone was passed. That’s right; the 150th transaction was completed on WarpIt last month!

WarpIt is an online marketplace to help redistribute resources conveniently and legally within the University for free. By helping staff to find others with spare items it helps to reduce procurement spend, while staff who are disposing of unwanted items are able to save on disposal costs by finding new owners for unwanted items.

To date, WarpIt has seen everything from kitchenware, desks and cupboards to electrophoresis systems, microscopes and mass spectrometers change hands between University staff. The system has helped to save an estimated £51,000 in waste disposal and purchasing costs, while also preventing 6 tonnes of waste ending up in landfill, and avoiding 23 tonnes of CO2.

To find, give away, or loan office furniture, lab equipment and other resources with WarpIt, simply create an account at www.warp-it.co.uk/cambridgeuni. If you’re already a member, you can promote WarpIt within your department by downloading or requesting posters from the E&E materials page
