Sustainability

Cambridge’s new community Eddington showcases its environmental credentials at a day of free activities, talks and tours on Saturday 14 September.

The new district, developed by the University of Cambridge, will be offering visitors a behind the scenes look at the energy centre and district heating system – designed to be more efficient and help reduce carbon emissions.

There will also be an Eddington nature tour with Mike Dean, project ecologist, highlighting some of the features and infrastructure in place that will enhance the biodiversity of the site – as well as a demonstration of the unique bins system.

The market square will feature a range of cycling activities including a bike try out show and pedal powered scalextric – as well as a junk yard orchestra to play on, made from recycled materials.

The day will feature over 20 attractions showcasing the new district including hands-on activities, live music, tours and talks, and street food market and licensed bar.

Visitors can travel to Open Eddington for free using the U bus service which runs from the train station through the city centre and on to Eddington.

Activities run from 10am to 4pm, some tours and talks require booking in advance.
