Sustainability

Cycle to Work Day takes place on 15 August this year. Now in its sixth year, Cycle to Work Day is the UK’s largest cycling event with thousands of enthusiastic cyclists taking to street to celebrate everyday cycling. Cambridge has a proud tradition of cycling and the University has one of the highest rates of cycling in the UK, with 39% of staff cycling every day - removing the need for a possible 4,495 cars from the roads around Cambridge!

High levels of cycling in the city help to keep us healthy and reduces congestion. Reduced congestion also leads to less air pollution.

To mark this occasion we will have an Instagram and Twitter photo competition. To take part, snap a picture of you and your bike, tag us @cambridgesust and tell us a little about your commute, your bike or the adventures you have had cycling be they big or small. The best photograph will win a free bike service, with smaller prizes for the runners up. We hope this competition will give an insight into the variety of bikes and cyclists we have here in Cambridge.

If you would like to run an event in your department such as lunchtime cycle, please contact us and we can provide you with cycling items to give away to your fellow cyclists you can also download a poster to promote the day in your department here.

Other events taking place on the day include a chance to try out a new bike at Greenwich House and at the Downing Site, a cycle safety seminar, a cycle maintenance workshop and Dr Bike repairs.
