Bus Fit

As we return to the office, is this the right time to consider how you travel to work/college?  Stewart, our Transport Coordinator says absolutely YES.

The motivation for trying new modes of travel could not be more relevant, with more of use returning to the workplace, the increased fuel prices, and the cost of living increasing, now is a great time to consider alternatives to travel. But are we Bus Fit? Being Bus Fit is more about learning about the types of tickets available and operational times of the local bus services along with your best route to your place of work or study. Whilst incorporating a little more exercise into you your daily routine.

I live in Ipswich and recently used public transport to travel to the University following the advice provided by our Travel Advisor Service  and timetable and fare information available on the University’s sustainable travel webpages

  • The University’s own Universal Bus service offers a range of discounted tickets, on production of a valid University Staff or Student ID Pass. These are £1 per trip, or £2.00 for an “unlimited travel Day Rover in Cambridge City” which covers the whole route of the universal from Eddington to Addenbrookes Hospital for 24hrs from time of activation.
  • Stagecoach also offer unlimited travel day tickets on their Cambridge City Network for £4.20, or £2.80 for those under 19 years old.

Smart technology makes travelling by bus easier with mobile applications. I pre-purchased my day ticket via the myTrip App. This platform provided me with my live bus ticket, live bus tracking and the option to purchase tickets for other services across the country when I’m travelling in those areas. Download myTrip or you could download the Stagecoach app, if their service supports your travel requirements.

Did you know that the average person who uses a bus will complete 11 marathons when walking to and from the bus stop over a year of commuting?

Am I Bus Fit? Yes, I got my ticket in advance, which reduced the stress of having cash or the right ticket when boarding. I was able to read my transport today magazine on the bus to work and then got off a stop earlier on Madingley Road, and walked the last section to the office. This gave me approximately an extra 20 minutes active travel on my day, allowing me to take in some fresh air, relax and collect my thoughts before and after my day at work.  Are you ready to give the bus a try and get bus fit for the summer?
