Paid internships are offered to students each year. On this page you will find information on the three positions available this summer: 


Opportunities at the University of Cambridge

The internships provide the opportunity to gain experience working with professionals in the field of sustainability and make contributions to improving the University’s environmental sustainability.

  • These positions are for undergraduate students, either current or recently graduated (within the last year).
  • The internships are 8 weeks long, to be undertaken between June and September. 
  • Requirements for any specific start dates are detailed below.
  • These positions will both be based in Cambridge.

You are welcome to apply to one or both positions, but you can only be accepted for one of them.

Sustainability Engagement Intern

This project will contribute to the Environment and Energy section’s work to engage staff and students across the University in sustainability. It will build upon work happening currently, to help realign how we most effectively create impact through our engagement efforts.

The successful applicant must be available to start the internship between mid-June and early August.

Biodiversity Intern

This project will contribute to the University’s work on its biodiversity and ecosystems. It will involve assisting with the completion of a full baseline assessment of biodiversity across the University, and supporting projects forming part of the associated implementation plan.

Air Travel Intern

This project will contribute to work aimed at reducing carbon emissions from the University’s travel by air. It will help to improve our understanding of the current extent of and reasons for the University’s air travel, and the viability of alternatives to flying.

Please send your CV (max 2 pages) and a cover letter (max 1 page) detailing why you would like the internship and why you would be suitable for the role to: living.laboratory@admin.cam.ac.uk by midnight on Sunday 18 February.

Interviews will be held between Tuesday 6 and Thursday 8 March.
