Environment and Energy

Do you want to reduce the carbon footprint of your lab work, but don't know where to start? Try Green Impact Labs!

Developed with the NUS, Green Impact Labs is a workbook full of ideas and suggestions for making the small improvements that add up to a big impact on the environmental performance of your lab. The more actions you complete, the more points you get, and at the end of the year an award could be yours.

The Bronze, Silver and Gold grades of reclaimed slate trophies are shown with pride across the University. So get together with your lab mates and start doing good!

Here's a taster:

L017 - Chemicals & materials (6 points)

The laboratory has created guidelines or communications, and/or changed procedures, to ensure all chemicals and materials are used efficiently within laboratory demonstrations, experiments and other activities so that waste is minimised.

L023 - Cold Storage (5 points)

There is regular (at least annual) cleaning, defrosting and (for ultracold freezers) maintenance of devices. This includes cleaning heat exchange coils on fridges and freezers, and defrosting any devices without auto-defrost.

L046 - Management & training (7 points)

Every new member of the laboratory receives some form of induction that includes content on resource efficiency and good environmental practice.
