Academic Project: Use of PV*SOL software to model University buildings | Status: Completed | Date:  January 2014

Person: Students in the Department of Engineering | Subject: Engineering | Supervisor: Dr Pritesh Hiralal

Project summary: The aim of this project was to investigate the potential for solar panels to be installed on the rooves of the William Gates Building and the Whittle Laboratory. Students modelled PV arrays for these buildings using PV Sol software that has been provided by the Living Lab and ECRP. The students were asked to look at both the financial feasibility as well as the technical feasibility of the PV.

Key findings: Students presented to Estate Management and the information was given to the Building Energy Manager for review. The students concluded that the PV was both financially feasible and technically feasible.

How has it been used? Students presented to Estate Management and the information was given to the Building Energy Manager for use in determining future installations.
