Greenwich House was originally home to the Royal Greenwich Observatory (1990-1998). After an extensive refurbishment, completed in January 2016, it is now home to around 400 members of University administrative staff. Divisions now housed at Greenwich House include Estate Management, the Research Operations Office, Human Resources (the Pensions Office, Personal and Professional Development, Recruitment and Compliance), Finance, and the Health, Safety and Regulated Facilities Division.
This capital project was the first to receive support from the Energy and Carbon Reduction Project to great success. Various carbon reduction measures were funded as part of the redevelopment including natural ventilation, a Monodraught heating and cooling system, solar photo-voltaic and solar thermal systems, LED lighting with controls, and an energy dashboard display.
The energy and carbon reduction measures installed in Greenwich House are still in their monitoring stage, but are likely to be significantly contributing the building’s low carbon footprint.
