Sustainability

This month, the University of Cambridge has been recognised for its sustainability efforts under two separate awards schemes. The University is a finalist in the Sustainability category of the TUCO Awards, run by The University Caterers Organisation, and is also a finalist for two categories of the Green Gown Awards, run by The Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges.

One finalist spot in the Green Gown awards has been secured alongside heavyweights including the London School of Economics, the University of Leeds and University of Oxford, in the ‘Sustainability Reporting’ category. It’s all thanks to the University’s first ever annual ‘Environmental Sustainability Report’, which receives the accolade for clearly reporting details of the University's successes in sustainability and lessons learnt in 2016.

Meanwhile the University is also a finalist in the Green Gown Awards ‘Food and Drink’ category, as well as in the Sustainability category of the TUCO awards, in recognition of the University’s ground-breaking Sustainable Food Policy, which was launched in February 2017. The policy aims not just to adopt good practices from across the catering industry, but also to lead the way in ‘making the right choice easy’ – providing and promoting tasty foods that are better for the environment.

The winners of the Green Gown awards award will be announced at the prestigious Green Gown Awards Ceremony taking place in Manchester on 15 November, while the result of the TUCO awards will be revealed at the Gala Awards Dinner at the University of Nottingham on Wednesday 26 July.
