Please note that the photo competition mentioned in this article is now closed, however University staff can head over to the Biodiversity group on Yammer to see the entries.

As part of Spotlight on Biodiversity month this April, we're hosting a Biodiversity Photography Competition. You don’t need to own the latest camera or have access to outdoor space to take part and the competition is open to all University and College staff. Winning images will be displayed on the Environment and Energy team's website, social media and newsletter.

The rules are simple:

  • Images must be taken since quarantine started in Cambridge, and before 1 May 2020.
  • Images must have been taken safely (within government guidelines relating to outdoor activity).
  • You can post as many images as you wish.

Photographs will be judged using the following nine categories:

Taken from a …

  • Garden
  • Window or balcony
  • Local walk

Taken with the following themes in mind …

  • Colour in nature
  • Pattern and texture
  • Wild animal portraits
  • Landscape and skies
  • People and nature
  • Spring

To enter you can either:

  • Post your photo in the University’s new Biodiversity group on Yammer. Staff have already shared some wonderful photos in this group and the Environment and Energy team are joining in daily to natter about nature, contribute their own, often slightly blurry, photos and to help identify any fauna and flora that staff may have discovered on their photography quests.
  • Post your photo on social media with the hashtag #SpotlightonBiodiversity and tag the Environment and Energy team (Instagram @cambridgesust; Twitter @CambridgeSust or Facebook @CUenvironment).
  • Email your photo to us.

Please note by submitting photographs you are granting us permission to use them in future E&E communications, webpages and reports.

Have fun and happy snapping!
