Sustainability

Louise Whitaker, Ethical Marketing Manager for the UK's largest independent distributor of Fairtrade produce to the food service sector, will be coming to the University of Cambridge during Fairtrade Fortnight to share her recent experiences with Ugandan coffee growing communities and answer any questions about the Fairtrade Mark.

Peros was set up in the year 2000 to fill the growing need to supply Fairtrade goods to catering services. Up until then, the market had been entirely shifted towards consumers, making it very difficult for the food service sector to offer Fairtrade beverages. They are a company still firmly committed to Fairtrade, ethical trading and sustainability.

Louise has recently returned from visiting coffee growing communities based around the foothills of Mount Elgon in Eastern Uganda. Louise will talk about her recent trip and how Fairtrade can support and help coffee growers to adapt to the threat of climate change and how coffee growing in these communities can empower women.

Fairtrade tea, coffee and biscuits will be available from 5pm.
